Kathmandu, 28 March: Artist Haribangsha Acharya’s identity has been comedy and satirical farce and performance. However, after being declared the best actor at the National Film Awards for the film ‘Mahapurush’ released in 2023 AD, he has been presenting himself in different roles than usual.
Even after reaching the age of sixty-seven, he takes his work seriously and works hard like a new artist. In a recent interaction, actor Acharya said that discipline will make success long-lasting. He said, “Whether acting in a film or doing a comedy, my heart still beats, fear arises in my mind. That fear is discipline for me. It motivates me to work hard, which is why I feel like my artistic journey has come this far.”
He gets the energy to work because his mind is like a 37-year-old youth with a healthy body and a calm mental state. Because he does not allow negativity to remain in him, his actions have created a place in society along with his art. Along with him, I, Madan Krishna Shrestha, from Maha Jodi, are artists who have created a high place in society along with their art.
Actor Acharya, who started his career through the theater, has not done a play for a long time. However, actor Acharya said that the farce and drama performed on stage are the same. “Drama and farce are the same, there is no much difference. Because in both, the actors present themselves on stage in front of the audience, I did some farce this year too. Therefore, I do not feel that I am far from drama,” he said.
He shared his experience that the stage is like a mother’s lap for the arts sector, and the artistry learned here is sustainable. Recalling that he learned drama and the style of dialogue spoken by actors from Guru Hari Prasad Rimal at the National Theatre, actor Acharya expressed the opinion that those interested in acting should present themselves on stage. “I learned that acting is done with the eyes from Guru Rimal, where I performed the play advertisement with Madan Dai in Nepal and abroad. We performed it for around four hundred people in Nepal alone. Our acting career started from the stage,” he said.
The first film he acted in was ‘Kumari’. After seeing the advertisement for the film in the Gorkhapatra daily, actor Acharya applied for the role. Actor Acharya said that he was not selected for the role despite presenting a scene of the film well in front of the director of the film. Although he appeared in small roles, he got better and more screen time roles after ‘Jeevan Rekha’ and ‘Basudev’. After that, actor Acharya, who has been active in acting, is still working in the same way. Actor Acharya, who is also a writer and director himself, prefers to act as an actor in other people’s films.
“I feel comfortable working as an actor on a character created by others, but I have to work a little harder when playing a character I have written or directed myself,” he said. The films ‘Bhuthan’ and ‘Hari Bahadur’s Shoes’, in which he has acted, will be released next year, 2082 BS.
