Corruption case filed against Madhav Nepal

Kathmandu, 5 Jun: A corruption case has been filed against Madhav Kumar Nepal, former Prime Minister and chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist).

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed the corruption case on Thursday at the Special Court against Chairman Nepal in connection with the land embezzlement case involving Patanjali.

According to Yagya Raj Regmi, the spokesperson of the Special Court, a bail claim of NPR 185.85 million has been made against Chairman Nepal.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) took statements from Chairman Nepal and others regarding the buying and selling of land with boundary exemptions registered in the name of Patanjali Yoga Pith and Ayurvedic Company located in Kavre.

In 2009 (2066 BS), when Madhav Kumar Nepal was Prime Minister, the cabinet had approved the purchase of land with boundary exemptions. However, after complaints arose alleging that land was sold beyond the approved boundary limits in violation of the law, the CIAA launched an investigation into the matter.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed cases against 93 individuals, including Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal. Among those charged in the Special Court are former Law Minister Prem Bahadur Singh and the then Land Reform Secretary Chhabi Raj Pant.

Following the filing of the corruption case at the CIAA, Unified Socialist Party MP Madhav Kumar Nepal has been suspended from his position.

It is Oli’s wish to end my political career: Madhav Nepal

Madhav Kumar Nepal, chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) and former Prime Minister, has responded by saying that Prime Minister and UML chairman KP Sharma Oli is trying to end his political career.

Chairman Nepal made this response after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a corruption case against him at the Special Court on Thursday.

“I have no intention to commit corruption, nor have I ever given orders for corruption,” said Chairman Nepal. “It is KP Oli’s intention to end my political career. He has tried this repeatedly before. He is acting out of a feeling of revenge.”
