Buddhist organization object to lockout at LDT

Kathmandu, Aug 9: Dharmodaya Sabha and other Buddhist organisations have protested against the ongoing lockout and picketing carried out by some groups at the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT), terming them as unbecoming. The Sabha, through a press release, expressed its disagreement to some of the demands put by some groups including the locals in the Lumbini town area. “Although the demands put before the LDT are largely positive, the demands like giving the responsibility of LDT to the locals. The inclusion of the topic of giving positions to those meeting the criteria in writing in the letter of demand has raised doubts,” reads the press release. The All Nepal Bhikkhu Federation, Nepal Budhhist Federation, Nepal Traditional Buddha Dharma Association, Lotus Research Centre and Nepal Magar Buddhist Service Society have objected to the demand that a priest be appointed for conducting puja at the Mayadevi Temple. These organisations have appealed to all those concerned not to carry out any activity likely to disturb the environment of peace in the World Heritage Site in view of its significance and sensitivity. —
