Music needs discipline, culture and change – Singer Rajni Lama

Kathmandu, 16 November: Singer Rajni Lama was born on 14 December, 1989 in Simaldada Dhading, Thakre Rural Municipality Ward No. 5, from father Kabiraj Lama and mother Kaili Lama. Since she was fond of music, she was a child, she always played Radio F.M. Rajni Lama came to the music field with the encouragement of her radio crew friends by participating in listening and calling programs.

She completed her secondary education in the year 2007 from Sri Mahakali Secondary School, Tasarpu, Dhading, after studying up to class 6 at the nearby Sri Adarsh Secondary School. Rajini narrates that she had to walk for an hour to reach the school. After passing SLC, she was teaching in Sri Adarsh secondary school  till 2070. She couldn’t give much time to study because she was doing housework in the morning and evening and school in the afternoon.

Rajani passed +2 from Shree Mahangkaleswori higher secondary school in 2011/012.  she could not continue her studies due to family and financial reasons.

Singing, dancing, and playing these three types of art are called music, acting according to music comes automatically to a person. If music can be understood as a friend to forget the sorrows of a person, it works to add more energy to get happiness and joy. Through song, dance, and acting, people can see and hear music as their art. My career in this field started with folk songs. Only a few people can make a living from this music field.

Singer Rajni Lama says that the ordinary singers who are involved in this field have their own pain, even if they enter this field for some time and do not have any jobs in the morning and afternoon, it is only for a meal for those who cannot embrace any other profession. It seems that it is not practical to look at artists and musicians as part of the state. If the state invests in the music sector by making some standards, then it will be favor for the state too as well. Because through music, acting and other arts, both good and bad events happening in the country are brought out, which helps in the development of the nation, says singer Rajini.

So far, she has tried to give her full contribution to the field of Nepali music. After filling her voice in many songs, Rajini’s folk songs are: Maya Launa Pokhara, Mitho Bolile, Timro maya Jalaiima, Gaudai maile Geet, Chukchuke Relaiima, Juneli Rataiko Chhayale, Phul Phuleko Jai, Phul ramro hunchha Daliko, Nakhoz Hai Bhau, Pirti Lako, Sauteni aama, Fateko Choli, Dukha pirlai bhuli, Ai Pardeshi Aaune Haina ra, Bichhodko pida, Hitako maya, Ful fuleko jasari, Jhilke Driver, MayaKo Kasam, Deuraliko Chhyang, Soltiju Bigriela Mati are some of her famous songs.

Along with her Lok Dohori songs, Rajni Lama is a popular name in the Tamang Selo as well. Mayako kasam, Damphuko talma, Chyangbale Damphu, Lhochhar Mela, Hiu bhanda Gori, Rupai Ta Ramri, Mabar Dandama hiu Parha and other Tamang Selo songs are also popular songs of audience and listeners.

Rajni Lama wants to request those who want to come to this field with understanding and learning. In this music field, not everyone understands, and there is a lot of money-grubbing of newcomers with a heart full of selfishness. Money is everything, talents are not valued much.

Rajni Lama is an artist who has been dedicating herself to social service. Rajni has also become a support for those who are suffering. She was a member of the Dhading District Executive Committee of the National Musicians' Association, becoming the secretary and also the senior vice president, and she led the entire executive committee. Having held the leadership of many organizations, she wants discipline and change in the society and in Nepali art and music. Karan Dreams, Man Khushi Foundation and Dupcheswar Music Pvt. Ltd presented the awards by the songstress Lok Dohori.

Singer Rajni Lama has been honored with many honors such as World Culture Tamang and Nepali Music Award 2024, National Artist Award 2079, Diamond Music Award, Vishal Music Award, Srashta Samman and others.
Finally, when I sang the songs of the creators through the radio, I was encouraged to move forward in the artistry, it will be successful, our support is always with you, to bring so many songs to the market today.
I would like to express my sincere respect to Radio Krishi 101.5 M.H. Dharke, Chalise Dhunibesi, Dhading and Radio Highway 92.1 M.H Dhunibesi Dharke, Dhading and they have always resonated songs through their radio to every corner of the community.
