The story begins with the death of renowned neurologist Dr. Pramod. Among those who came to pay tribute with a garland was his gym trainer, Dhina, who seemed suspicious.
Soon after, police officer Kumaran witnesses Dhina murdering his own wife. In a police raid, Dhina is killed. This incident leaves a deep psychological impact on Kumaran.
He seeks counseling from psychiatrist Dr. Aadhirai.
Some time later, another murder takes place in the same style as Dhina’s wife’s killing — this time, a famous actress is found dead.
When Kumaran arrives at the crime scene, he notices blood stains and the same brand of cigarette butt as in the previous murder. Once again, he struggles mentally. Dr. Aadhirai meets him and begins treating his psychological issues.
Later, Kumaran meets a motivational speaker named Rudran.
Gradually recovering, Kumaran resumes the investigation. He discovers that the actress was murdered by a makeup artist named Gopi. Kumaran also learns that both Gopi and Dhina had been behaving unusually in the days leading up to their respective murders.
Kumaran pursues Gopi, but before gaining much information, Gopi also dies.
Then, scientist Narayanan is murdered. Kumaran visits Narayanan’s house to search for evidence and finds a book written by Rudran.
Believing Rudran might know something about Narayanan, Kumaran meets him. Upon meeting, Kumaran notices Rudran’s behavior has changed.
Rudran starts smoking the same brand of cigarettes that have been evidence in the previous murders, which strikes Kumaran as odd.
When Rudran suddenly kills his own dog, Kumaran takes him into custody. While Rudran is signing papers at the police station, Kumaran notices that Rudran first writes the name “Pramod,” then crosses it out and writes “Rudran.”
During the investigation, it becomes clear that there is a technological mystery behind all these murders. The deeper the investigation goes, the more complex, intriguing, and intense the story becomes. When Kumaran uncovers the truth about this technology, he himself falls into grave danger.
Will Kumaran be able to solve the mystery, or will he become the next victim?
To find out, watch the South Indian (Tamil) film Maayavan.
Directed by CV Kumar, the film might feel slow at the beginning, but the story gradually becomes more engaging and even more thrilling in the second half. By the end, the plot reaches a point where it seems everything is revealed, yet some mysteries remain. That is the true magic of Maayavan.
