A team of Mountaineering students at Thorang Himchuli in Manang

Kathmandu, Ashoj 21 (Oct 7): Students of Nepal Mountain Academy who are studying mountain climbing have reached Thorang Himchuli area of ​​Manang. 16 students of the seventh ‘semester’ of the academy, climbed the 6,100 meter high Thorang Himchuli.

Pemba Ongchu Sherpa, the chief instructor and international mountaineer guide who has gone from the academy, informed that they climbed Thorang Himchuli on Thursday, Ashoj 17th (Oct 3). The students studying in the graduate level (BMS) of Nepal Mountain Academy, run under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, have reached there for experimental studies. According to the curriculum of this level, the students went to the mountains and learned skills such as mountain climbing, ‘glacier walking’, ‘yapeling’, ‘ascending’, ‘descending’ and rescue.

Each student has done experimental studies on different topics. From the start of the annual grass cutting day in Manang, the testing of materials used in mountain climbing, ‘Leave no trace’, the state of waste on the ‘trail’ and the role of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), ‘body weight loss’ during the climb, Sherpa, the chief instructor of the experimental climb, informed that the snow condition of Thorang Himchuli, village management and ‘profiling’ of Thorang Himchuli had been completed. Along with Pemba, another coach, Nar Bahadur Asthani, also participated in the climb.

A company called Pick Promotion Pvt Ltd took over the management of village and climbing research. Angbabu Sherpa, the managing director of the said company, responded that the study done by the students was historic. According to the academy, the students of BMS i.e. ‘Bachelor of Mountaineering Studies’, which can be studied after ‘Plus Two’, get jobs as soon as they are able to study and currently there is 90% employment. Currently working in various trekking companies at BMS level, engineers and four pilots are also studying.
