A rest stop with free refreshments to reduce accidents

Manthali (Ramechhap), 14 October: To reduce the possible accidents that may occur during Dashain, a rest area with free lunch has been operated in Khandadevi Rural Municipality-3 Bhirpani of the district.

Police and Khandadevi Village-6 Makadum have started this exercise to reduce possible accidents. After the collapse of Khurkot in Sindhuli and Khairenighat bridge due to heavy rain on September 27th and 28th, long-distance vehicles are being operated through Mude in Sindhupalchok and Charikot in Dolakha. That’s why Narayan Karki, chairman of Ward No. 6, informed that the service was conducted keeping in mind the risk of possible accidents. He said, “There is a risk of accidents due to technical problems in the vehicles that have come across long distances. There have been two or three accidents here only after the restoration, but the driver refused to stop the vehicle. After providing free water and lunch, the drivers stopped the vehicles. The campaign has been effective.”

According to him, this campaign was conducted on the 10th and 11th of Oct. There is a plan to conduct a campaign for those who have returned after celebrating Dashain. District Police Office Chief Pradeep Kumar Singh said that arrangements have been made to distribute free food such as biscuits, noodles and water and cold drinks for lunch at that place. Vehicles traveling from Kathmandu via Nepalthok and crossing Khurkot and Khaireni Ghat bridges are operating via Mude, Charikot, Manthali after the flood washed away the bridges at both places.

Since there is an uphill road from Sitkha in Bhirpani to Goganpani hill in Pakarwas and a downhill road from Goganpani to Charikhola in Bhirpani, there is a risk of accidents here. Local Rajesh Kumar Shrestha said that not only the passengers but also the driver and co-driver were happy when the campaign was conducted.
