A multifaceted personality, Jiba Lamichhane

Jiba Lamichhane is a multifaceted personality. An entrepreneur, literary writer, social worker, and Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) activist, he was born in 1966 (B.S. 2023) in a modest farming family in Padampur, Chitwan, to father Khem Lal Lamichhane and mother Harikala Lamichhane. His father was engaged in agriculture, and from an early age, Jiba began to develop an interest in business.

Lamichhane passed his School Leaving Certificate (SLC) in 1983 with first division. He then completed a proficiency certificate level in Civil Engineering from Pulchowk Engineering Campus in 1986. Academically talented, he received a scholarship from the Government of Nepal and earned his Master’s degree from Moscow State University of Civil Engineering in 1992.

After completing his education, Lamichhane started an electronics business in Moscow. He began importing goods from Japan, Germany, and Singapore to sell in Russia. Later, he became involved in operating the Trip Inn Hotel Group in Germany, which now runs more than 50 hotels.

He is not only active in the business sector but is also one of the founding members of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA). From 2011 to 2013, he served as the President of the International Coordination Council (ICC). Through the NRNA, he played a key role in bringing investment into Nepal and contributed to social service by supporting emergency relief, education, and health sectors.

In addition to his business pursuits, Lamichhane is also a skilled writer. He has published travelogues such as “Sarsarti Sansar” and “Desh Deshantar”. Through his literary work, he has significantly contributed to the international promotion of Nepali literature.

Having made significant contributions in the fields of education, business, and literature both in Nepal and abroad, Jiba Lamichhane has been honored with various medals and awards. Among them is the Prabal Janasewa Shree medal awarded by the Government of Nepal, one of the highest civilian honors given to Nepali citizens.

A multifaceted individual, Lamichhane is the father of two children, Anurag and Anukrit, with his spouse Dr. Bindita Pokhrel. His life and work have made a profound impact on the upliftment of the Nepali community both within the country and internationally.
