Prime Minister Oli Urges Landlocked Countries to Embrace Inclusive Global Partnerships for Prosperity
Avaza, Turkmenistan, 05 Aug: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on landlocked countries to move forward on the path of prosperity through inclusive global partnerships and shared responsibilities. He also presented Nepal’s commitment to transforming itself from a landlocked to a land-linked country through infrastructure development and technological advancement.
Addressing the plenary session of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) being held in Avaza, Turkmenistan, Prime Minister Oli, speaking on behalf of both Nepal and the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) group, emphasized that with deeper regional and international cooperation, geographical barriers need not hinder development.
He highlighted the disproportionate impact of climate change and disaster risks on landlocked nations and stressed the need for a firm commitment and clear strategies to move toward inclusive and adaptive economic growth, especially in the digital economy.
Prime Minister Oli urged LLDCs to exercise strong political will, adopt a renewed and robust global partnership that leaves no country behind, and coordinate efforts at all levels.
“I firmly believe that with the right policies, strong solidarity, and support, these countries can transform from landlocked to land-linked, from transit-dependent to trade-competitive, and from climate-vulnerable to climate-resilient,” he said.
He further added, “We must pursue policies focused on structural transformation, trade facilitation, regional integration, transit and transport connectivity, and climate adaptation to create inclusive growth and shared opportunities.”
Reaffirming that no country’s destiny should be determined by its geography, Prime Minister Oli expressed confidence that the constraints of landlocked can be overcome through strong partnerships, smart investments, and unwavering collective will.
“We firmly believe that regional unity and global cooperation are essential to bridge the development gap. We are working together with our neighbors, India and China, to enhance connectivity and collaboration in many areas,” he said. “We are confident that with continued support from our neighbors and the broader international community, we can turn the barrier of landlocked into a gateway of opportunity.”
Prime Minister Oli made it clear that Nepal is ready to cooperate as an active member of the landlocked countries’ group—not merely as a beneficiary, but as a committed partner in this transformation. He expressed Nepal’s strong support for the Avaza Program of Action and affirmed that its implementation would be aligned with Nepal’s national aspiration of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.”
The conference, running until August 23, includes addresses from heads of state and government from participating countries. During the event, Prime Minister Oli is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with heads of delegations from various countries, as well as senior officials from the United Nations and other international organizations.
