CPN-UML Vice Chairman Surendra Pandey has urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign immediately.

Ministers in Baluwatar, leaders in safe locations

After the Gen-Z youth protests turned leaderless, political party leaders were moved to safe locations.

During the demonstrations, attacks were launched on top leaders, with arson at their residences and assaults on family members, prompting security forces to relocate them to secure places. Their current whereabouts have not been disclosed. Ministers were moved from their quarters, and leaders outside the capital were also taken to safety. Reports in Indian media claiming that all Nepali leaders had fled abroad were false.

According to high-level security sources, all four security agencies have been mobilized. Military and private helicopters have landed repeatedly in Baluwatar and other locations. Leaders in other areas have also been shifted to secure places, the sources claim.

“After arson at Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s residence, the residence of former Prime Minister and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, the home of Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa, and vandalism at Madhav Nepal’s house, the leaders were taken to safe locations,” a senior security source said.

Following rumors on social media that leaders were fleeing, security officials insisted that top leaders were only being kept in safe zones. From Bhaisepati, ministers were flown by helicopter to the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar. “The Prime Minister had called the ministers, and they were taken to Baluwatar,” the source added.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called an all-party meeting for 6 PM. By then, however, the situation had already gone out of control. From Oli’s home district of Jhapa to Energy Minister Dipak Khadka’s residence in Sankhuwasabha, vandalism was also reported. Meanwhile, false rumors spread by Indian media further inflamed protesters. Nevertheless, all leaders remain safe in Kathmandu.
