Trump flew to Washington to talk with Zelensky and European leaders

U.S. President Donald Trump has returned to Washington.

He returned after holding high-level talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump said he would discuss the agreements reached in the talks with Ukraine, Europe, and NATO member states.

“The talks were positive. I will brief NATO leaders, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and others about the discussions,” Trump said at a joint press conference.

Neither Trump nor Putin has revealed what was agreed upon in the talks.

Both have only described them as positive.

Putin Maintains Four Stances for Ceasefire in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has maintained his positions for a ceasefire in Ukraine.

According to The New York Times, during talks with U.S. President Donald Trump at the Joint Military Base in Anchorage, Alaska, Putin reiterated his existing stances.

After nearly three hours of discussions, Trump and Putin held a joint press conference.

At the press conference, Putin described the war in Ukraine as a fundamental threat to Russia’s security.

To resolve it, he repeated the conditions set by Russia.

According to The New York Times, Putin’s four stances are:

  1. A large portion of Ukrainian territory to come under Russian control.

  2. Reduction of Ukrainian armed forces.

  3. No NATO membership for Ukraine.

  4. Change of Ukraine’s government.

Ukraine and Western countries have called these demands unacceptable.

After the Trump–Putin meeting was scheduled, European leaders also held a virtual dialogue with Trump.

During that time, they stated that any decision affecting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity — including land swaps — would be invalid.

Trump reportedly responded that decisions regarding territory would be made by Ukraine itself.

Trump and Putin Hold Three-Hour Talks

U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held three hours of discussions.

The meeting between the two presidents, held at the Joint Military Base in Anchorage, Alaska, began at 11:30 a.m. local time and concluded at 2:30 p.m.

It had previously been suggested that the talks could last six to seven hours.

Following the talks, a joint press conference was held.

At the press conference, both leaders made brief remarks, with no question-and-answer session.

However, both Trump and Putin described the talks as positive.

President Trump said that many points had been agreed upon, but did not disclose what they were. This means that no concrete agreement was reached, according to The New York Times.

“There has been some progress. Many points have been agreed upon, with only a few remaining,” Trump said.

Putin also stated that there was agreement on certain points but did not reveal what those were.

“We expect Kyiv and the Europeans to take this positively and not create obstacles,” Putin said.

Putin received a grand welcome in Alaska. Trump greeted him with full honors on a red carpet. U.S. fighter jets and B-2 bombers performed aerial displays.

Afterwards, the two leaders rode together in the U.S. presidential limousine, without interpreters. The New York Times described this as an unusual sight for the leaders of two major world powers.
