Encouragement to marry on time and focus on having children

Kathmandu, 11 Jul: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged people to marry on time and focus on having children, stating that without balanced population growth alongside development and prosperity, human existence itself could be at risk.

Speaking at the launch event of the National Population Policy 2082, organized by the Ministry of Health and Population on the occasion of World Population Day, Prime Minister Oli emphasized that development must go hand in hand with population growth. He stated that every individual should take their role in parenthood as a responsibility toward the Earth.

“Human beings give meaning to every nation and to the Earth itself. Without population, there would be no countries. We must adopt appropriate policies and measures to protect the existence and well-being of humanity,” he said. “There is nothing more valuable than the human race for the continuation of creation. Those who kill people for their own selfish interests must stop this act. While conducting seminars and workshops on population, manufacturing weapons of mass destruction and killing people at the same time will not preserve the existence of the human world. We must not allow demographic imbalance to persist.”

Prime Minister Oli pointed out that the government has made legal provisions for marriage after the age of 20, and urged people not to be misled by popular songs that suggest enjoying life after forty. Instead, he encouraged getting married on time and having three children by the age of thirty.

He expressed concern that public awareness campaigns discouraging phrases like “may your children cover the hills” have had the opposite effect—leading to situations where people are not having children at all. Highlighting the negative population growth in developed countries and the resulting threat to human existence, he stressed the need to implement the newly introduced population policy to ensure proper population management.
