Magne Budha’s clarification: “I have not taken 6.1 million in remuneration. I will give the full 6.1 million to anyone who can prove it.”

Kathmandu, 6 Jul: Speaking at the press conference of Mrs. Nepal World 2025 held in Kathmandu on Sunday, Ghimire clarified that he made such a statement only at the request of the producer to help promote the film and generate buzz.

“I didn’t actually receive that amount. I don’t want to publicly disclose how much I was paid, but it certainly wasn’t 6.1 million,” he said. “I said it because producer Mr. Munal Ghimire asked me to.”

He further added, “When I asked him, ‘Brother, why exaggerate so much?’ he told me to stay quiet, that I didn’t understand. He said he had already made a few films before and insisted that we need to create hype. He kept repeating that it doesn’t matter what we say—as long as it creates buzz and grabs attention.”

During a press conference held in the first week of Asar (mid-June) for the film Magne Raja, producer Munal Ghimire claimed he had paid Kedar Ghimire 6.1 million rupees as remuneration. Following that statement, some media outlets began promoting Ghimire as a highly paid actor.

Interestingly, within less than a month, the same producer has contradicted his own claim. In a new episode of Comedy Night with Champions, filmed on Saturday and scheduled to air in three weeks, producer Ghimire dismissed his earlier statement.

Quoting Munal’s words from the show, Kedar Ghimire later told reporters after a press event, “It’s all hype. Without some gimmick or buzz, films just don’t run.”

Onlinekhabar also asked Kedar directly about the matter. He replied that he had never claimed anywhere that he received 6.1 million rupees in payment.

“I’ll give 6.1 million rupees to anyone who can prove I was paid that much,” said Kedar. “After the producer clarified on Comedy Night with Champions that the remuneration figure was incorrect, it became easier for me to speak up during the press meet.”

Kedar Ghimire plays the lead role in Magne Raja, which is set to release during the upcoming Teej festival. His other films—Maitighar is planned for Dashain, Jerry on Top for Tihar, and Jahajai Ma for Fagun (February–March).
