U.S. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk have come face to face. The clash between Musk and Trump—who had previously aligned during the presidential election—has now come out in public, causing a major stir in American politics.
On Thursday night, a heated exchange and mutual accusations were seen between Trump and Musk on social media.
President Trump expressed disappointment with Musk, stating that problems began when he proposed removing the law mandating the purchase of electric vehicles. Trump also claimed he had helped Musk significantly. Speaking to the media alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump said he was very disappointed with Musk.
Following this, Musk made a series of tweets on X (formerly Twitter), calling Trump ungrateful and claiming that Trump would have lost the election without his support. Musk wrote: “Without me, Trump would have lost the election. Democrats would have taken control of the House, and Republicans would have won the Senate by just 51-49. This is sheer ingratitude.” In another tweet, Musk added: “The government reduced subsidies for electric vehicles and solar energy but kept subsidies for oil and gas companies intact. That’s completely wrong.”
In response, Trump threatened to terminate the grants given to Musk’s company, SpaceX. Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump accused Musk of targeting him and warned that all government contracts and subsidies to SpaceX could be canceled.
Trump wrote: “Elon is becoming a problem for me. I told him to back off. I removed the electric vehicle mandate law that forced people to buy unwanted EVs. He knew for months I was going to do this, and then he went crazy!”
In another post, Trump stated: “The easiest way to save billions of dollars in our budget is to cut off government subsidies and contracts to Musk. I always wondered why Biden never did that.”
Responding to the threat of subsidy termination, Musk said: “Taking into account the President’s remarks about canceling government contracts, SpaceX will immediately begin shutting down its Dragon spacecraft operations.”
NASA uses SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft to deliver food, scientific equipment, and other essential supplies to the International Space Station. Dragon became the first private spacecraft to successfully dock with the ISS in 2012.
Musk didn’t stop there. He went on to make a sensational claim that Donald Trump’s name is included in the Jeffrey Epstein files. Musk tweeted: “The time has come for a major revelation. Donald Trump’s name is in the Epstein files. That’s why they were never made public. Donald Trump, have a good day.”
