Syangja, 8 May: With the slogan “Teach the hungry how to survive, not just feed them once,” a total of 55 breeding goats were distributed in Galyang Municipality under the Galyang Agriculture and Livestock Entrepreneurship Development Project, aiming to support economic prosperity and promote self-reliance.
The distribution was carried out with financial support from Galyang Municipality, technical assistance from Heifer Project Nepal, and facilitation by the Naya Goreto Organization. The initiative targeted local groups to foster self-sufficiency.
As part of the program, 30 breeding goats were distributed in Ward No. 7 (Ramche) and 25 in Ward No. 6 (Pidikhola), totaling 55 goats. Beneficiaries included members of the Namuna and Janjyoti Self-Reliant Women’s Groups of Ward No. 6, and the Kanun Self-Reliant Women’s Group of Ward No. 7.
The program was held under the chief patronage of Galyang Municipality Mayor Guru Prasad Bhattarai, who emphasized that livestock farming can be an effective means of achieving economic prosperity in rural areas. He stated that with continuous effort, goat farming can become a viable source of income and a pathway to self-reliance. Mayor Bhattarai added that such initiatives help cultivate a mindset of action among others as well, encouraging people to engage in production and work hard to lead a better life. He urged everyone to focus on income generation and participate actively in productive activities.

Deputy Mayor Hema Neupane also addressed the program, stressing the importance of such initiatives to encourage women toward self-employment. She highlighted that for women’s empowerment, a strong economic foundation is essential and emphasized the need to focus on self-reliance.
The breeding goat distribution program saw the participation of Ward Chair Dip Gurung of Ward No. 6, Ward Chair Jhavilal Pandey of Ward No. 7, women entrepreneurs involved in the groups, technical staff, local intellectuals, and the general public. Galyang Municipality stated that participants in goat farming will be provided with regular training, monitoring, and technical support to ensure smooth implementation and sustainability of the initiative.
