Jhilko Made on the Impact of Digital Addiction

Kathmandu, 7 May: Since last Friday, the Nepali film Jhalko, which is being screened across the country, has touched the hearts of audiences, parents, and individuals from the education sector.

The film, which focuses on the impact of digital addiction on children’s lives, family relationships, and social well-being, has been receiving feedback for highlighting sensitive and relevant issues of today’s time, according to actor Bishal Pokharel. “Many people who have already watched the movie believe it is a must-watch with the whole family. Some have even returned with their families to see it again. The storyline especially revolves around parental neglect, smartphone misuse, and family breakdowns due to digital technology. Therefore, it has proven to be useful for both parents and children,” he said.

Alongside actor Pokharel, the film features performances by Ayushi Dhakal, Sunil Pokharel, Barsha Siwakoti, Bhola Raj Sapkota, Janvi Basnet, Jenish Shrestha, and Jevish Shrestha.

After watching Jhalko, the central president of the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organization Nepal (PABSON), Krishna Adhikari, commented that the film portrays the current state of society. He said, “This is the story of every household today. It shows how parents and teachers have failed to take matters seriously, and how that failure impacts students. The film clearly presents the need to connect education with skills and values.”

Overall, the film Jhalko has sparked deep discussion around the complex relationship between education, parenting, and technology usage, according to those who have already watched it.

Viewers have analyzed that the film should not only be seen by students but also by every parent, teacher, and school principal. Directed by Yadav Kumar Bhattarai—renowned for the film JholaJhalko is produced by Media for Culture Pvt. Ltd.

The cinematography was done by Deepak Bajracharya, editing by Nimesh Shrestha, and the story was co-written by director Bhattarai along with Arun Dev Joshi and Dev Brat.
