Kathmandu, 27 April: On Sunday afternoon in Kathmandu, a clash between teachers and police resulted in a journalist being injured. The police intervened after teachers attempted to break through the police barricade and enter a restricted area. During the confrontation, the police also used water cannons against the teachers.

The government infiltrated the protest: Teacher’s Federation
The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has accused the government of infiltrating the peaceful protest of teachers. While addressing the teachers’ movement rally today (Sunday), Federation President Laxmi Kishore Subedi stated that teachers are ready to give their lives. “We are teachers. We have no sticks, nothing. By infiltrating our peaceful movement, the government has exposed its naked form. What kind of government is this? Even if the ancestors’ government came, they couldn’t suppress us,” he said. “Remember, every teacher is ready to give their life. Do not dare to weaken our movement.”
There was a clash between teachers and the police in Baneshwor. The Federation stated that more than 15 teachers were injured when the police fired water cannons. After the use of force in the protest, the teachers have become even more enraged. The Federation has stated that more teachers and staff will arrive in Kathmandu tomorrow. “Tomorrow, three times as many teachers will gather. Now, every teacher has started calling, saying they will also come,” said President Subedi.

The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has called on teachers and school staff from across the country to come to the capital, stating that the time has come to give the “final and decisive push” to the education movement centered in Kathmandu. The Federation has reported that some local governments have been pressuring teachers and school staff participating in the movement with threats, transfers, and resignation demands. The Federation has urged local governments to respect the constitutional right to collective bargaining and has requested all teachers and staff not to be swayed by such activities.
The Federation has called on all teachers and staff to support the movement to ensure the rights and welfare of teachers.
In a statement issued by Federation President Laxmi Kishore Subedi and General Secretary Tul Bahadur Thapa, it was mentioned that a “final push” is needed to strengthen the movement and implement a “progressive law.” The Federation stated that the educational road movement, which began on 20th Chaitra 2081 (April 2025), has now surpassed 25 days. The movement, which began with the demand for quality education and a student- and teacher-friendly school education law, has now reached a decisive stage, according to the Federation.
