We have been freed from the need to repeatedly seek a vote of confidence: Prime Minister

Kathmandu, January 31: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the Parliament has been freed from the situation of having to repeatedly seek a vote of confidence.

Addressing the meeting on the occasion of the commencement of the fifth session of the House of Representatives today, he said, “I would like to mention here a happy aspect that has not had to be repeated in our parliamentary politics in the past six months. The bizarre situation of making holes in the name of power and sailing a different boat and continuing to play for power while ignoring the country and the people has now come to an end.”

Prime Minister Oli mentioned that he had attended the House with the confidence of the people and the determination of the Parliament. Splitting and destroying parties is not on this government’s ‘menu’. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has made it clear that things like splitting and dismantling parties are not on the government’s ‘menu’.

He urged everyone to be confident that such a strong government, including the Congress-UML, would not be a priority. Urging everyone not to waste time saying that the government has collapsed, he said, “It seems like the friends in the opposition have wasted their time on one thing – the government is collapsing, it is about to collapse. It does not celebrate Poush Masant, Maghe Sankranti. Etc, Etc. It is better to sing such songs on the stage of entertainment, let’s stop singing them on the stage of politics.”

During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli also informed about his participation in the 79th United Nations General Assembly and his recent official visit to neighboring China.

Ordinance for administrative reform, good governance and investment promotion

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has clarified that the government has brought various ordinances during the non-session of Parliament for reforms, good governance and investment promotion, including stopping the trend of obstructing the work of service recipients by circulating files in government offices.

Addressing the House of Representatives, Prime Minister Oli informed that 29 acts have been amended through ordinances, including 11 to immediately improve the economic and business environment and increase investment, 12 related to promoting good governance and public services, three related to land and forests, the Economic Procedures and Fiscal Responsibility Act, the Privatization Act, and the Cooperatives Act.

He said that the legal provision that all work must be completed within seven days, except for the period specified in the law, has created an environment for Nepali companies based on information technology to compete in the international market. “Now, an environment has been created for our Nepali companies to open subsidiaries and branches abroad, conduct business, and repatriate the income earned abroad to Nepal,” said Prime Minister Oli.

He stated that among the conflicting laws related to consumer protection, irrelevant laws have been repealed and unnecessary intimidation of entrepreneurs has been eliminated by making provision for determining the prices of goods through competition, further strengthening consumer protection.

Prime Minister Oli said that a provision has been made that government officials should make a decision within 15 days of submitting an application for industry registration, and if a decision is not made within that period, the industry will automatically be recognized for operation. The situation where entrepreneurs can open a company but have to go through unnecessary ‘hassle’ to close it even if it goes bankrupt has been permanently ended.

He also informed that amendments have been made to the existing Cooperative Act for urgent tasks, including the formation of a National Cooperative Regulatory Authority to protect savers’ money, as pointed out by the report of the Parliamentary Committee on Cooperative Fraud.
