45 percent progress on Madi River ‘Arch Design’ Bridge

Damauli (Tanahun), 16 November: 45 percent of the arch design bridge being constructed on the Madi river in Tanahun under the construction Muglin-Pokhara road project has been completed. The Muglin-Pokhara Road Plan (Eastern Section) has informed that construction has been accelerated on Madi River connecting Byas Municipality 4 and 5.

According to Bishnu Prasad Pandey, engineer of the eastern section of the project, the bridge will have six ‘spans’. The construction company signed a contract on August 11, 2022 for Rs. 121 million where ZIST Annak JV has got the contract to make bridge. The longest arch design bridge on Prithvi Highway will have four lanes. Currently, the two-lane bridge over the river is 370 meters long. A new bridge is being constructed at a distance of about 50 meters from the same bridge.

Dinesh Shrestha, the representative of the construction company, expressed his belief that the work will be completed ahead of schedule at the current pace. For the construction of the bridge, work is being done in two ‘shifts’ at night and in the afternoon. Under the eastern section of Muglin Pokhara Road Plan, 13 bridges have been completed from Ambukhaireni to Jamune. Among the big bridges, the construction of bridges over Madi river in Damauli, Buldi river, Bandipur canal and Khani river in Ambukhareni is going on.

Under the eastern section, 68 percent of the road work has been completed. In the eastern section, the agreement was signed on 30th January 2021 and the work started on 15 April 2021. The contract for the eastern section was awarded to China Communication Construction.

With the help of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan, the road is going to be made into a four-lane road after the increase in traffic on the road, which was planned in the year 1970. The contract for the eastern section is Rs.6 billion 21 crore 31 lakh 13 thousand and the contract for the western section is for Rs.7.40 crore 46 lakh.

The old one bridge over the Madi River in Damauli, Tanahun, was constructed by the Chinese government as part of Nepal-China cooperation efforts.
