What are the special features of the Chinese car ‘Mini Range Rover’ that has gained worldwide fame?

The British luxury automaker Land Rover’s most prestigious SUV is the Range Rover, considered one of the world’s leading luxury vehicles.

Kathmandu, 14 Aug: Recently, Chinese automaker Chery Automobile has introduced a vehicle that draws comparisons to the Range Rover.

While these two brands differ significantly in market positioning and price, there are reasons why Chery’s new model is being compared to the Range Rover—particularly its exterior design, interior styling, and comfort features. Automotive critics worldwide have even nicknamed it the “Mini Range Rover.”

We’re talking about Chery Automobile’s Jetour J-5, launched under its Jetour brand.

This electric vehicle (EV) has now entered the Nepali market. SPG Automobiles Pvt. Ltd. (Sharda Group), the official distributor of Chery in Nepal, recently unveiled this model at the NAMI Nepal Mobility Expo held at Bhrikuti Mandap.

The expo was organized by the Nepal Automobiles Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAMI).

Sharda Group also showcased two other Chery models—the Jetour J-6 and Omoda E5—both of which have been available in Nepal for some time. However, the Jetour J-5 is new to the Nepali market.

Designed for both urban and rough terrains, this SUV is priced at ₹60.99 lakh, with a special booking price of ₹56.99 lakh during the expo.

Now, let’s discuss its special features:

The most standout feature of this car is its stylish design, which gives the Jetour J-5 a unique position compared to other vehicles in its class.

From the outside, it looks similar to a Range Rover. The car stands 1.65 meters tall, with a width of 1.86 meters and a length of 4.39 meters. While it appears grand on the outside, the interior is equally spacious and comfortable.

Additionally, it has a wheelbase of 2.62 meters—a longer wheelbase means more legroom for passengers and better stability at high speeds. It also handles rough roads smoothly.

The car has a ground clearance of 7.3 inches, meaning the lowest part of the vehicle won’t scrape the ground even on bumpy roads, making it suitable for off-road driving.

Now, let’s talk about its power, battery capacity, charging, and speed.

According to the company, the Jetour J-5 has a motor power of 155 kW, placing it in the powerful SUV category. This means the car can accelerate quickly and perform well on highways and hilly terrains.

It comes with a 58.9 kWh battery, which is considered good for an SUV. On a full charge, it can travel up to 461 km—enough for a round trip from Kathmandu to Pokhara. In city driving, the range could be even longer due to lower speeds.

  • Home charging takes about 5-6 hours for a full charge.

  • DC fast charging can fully charge the battery in just 1 hour.

This makes the Jetour J-5 a practical choice for both long trips and daily commutes.

This car comes with a self-parking or automatic parking feature. For this, the car uses its cameras to scan and identify suitable parking spots. It automatically checks whether the space is adequate for parking and determines how to maneuver into it. The driver only needs to control the brakes and steering while the car handles the rest.

Additionally, the car offers a generous 480-liter boot space (commonly referred to as the trunk in everyday language). This trunk can be opened and closed automatically with the push of a button.

Moving to the interior design, we see a black or gray color scheme that gives it a premium feel, resembling the Range Rover’s aesthetics. The cabin is thoughtfully designed with 10-11 storage compartments for keeping various items organized.

The car also features a 1.45-square-meter sunroof that can be opened as needed. For entertainment and connectivity, there’s a 13.2-inch touchscreen that supports Bluetooth pairing for both Apple and Android smartphones. Below the screen, there’s a wireless charging pad for added convenience.

The Jetour J-5 is available in five color options: gray, black, green, white, and silver.

Launched in early 2025, Chery’s Jetour J-5 has gained significant attention in markets like China, Malaysia, and even some European countries. Its combination of luxury-inspired design, smart features, and practicality has made it a popular choice among SUV buyers.
