Kathmandu, 23 Aug: Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Vo Thi Anh Xuan, has arrived in Kathmandu on a three-day official visit to Nepal. She is visiting Nepal at the friendly invitation of Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that Vice President Xuan’s visit will be the first high-level visit by Vietnam. During the visit, Vice President Yadav and his counterpart Xuan will hold delegation-level bilateral talks in Kathmandu on Bhadra 20, the ministry has stated. Similarly, Vice President Xuan is also scheduled to hold courtesy calls with other high-ranking personalities of Nepal.
This visit is considered of special significance as this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Vietnam. Vice President Xuan is scheduled to return home on August 25 after completing her visit.

Foreign Minister urges Vietnamese Vice President to operate direct flights to Gautam Buddha and Pokhara airports
Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has requested Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan to operate flights from Vietnam to Gautam Buddha and Pokhara International Airports.
During a courtesy call with Vice President Xuan, who is visiting Nepal on Saturday, Foreign Minister Rana urged the government to take the initiative for direct flights, citing the large number of Vietnamese people visiting Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, every year.
She emphasized the need to highlight the cultural ties between the two countries and that Buddhism is a strong link in expanding relations between the two countries and people.
Stating that the number of Vietnamese tourists in Nepal has increased significantly in recent years, Minister Rana opined that both countries should utilize this opportunity and move forward by collaborating in promoting the tourism sector.
She also urged the Vietnamese Vice President for necessary assistance in the future as Nepal is preparing to graduate from Least Developed Country status after 2026.
Minister Rana congratulated Vietnam on its economic success in recent years and said that the two countries could work together to promote cultural tourism.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed that Vice President Vo has expressed her commitment to support Nepal when requesting support for Nepal’s candidacy for membership of the Human Rights Council for the period 2027 to 2029 and the Economic and Social Council for the period 2029 to 2031.
According to the ministry, Nepal and Vietnam have been cooperating and supporting each other at bilateral and multilateral levels, and discussed the need to move forward collaboratively on global agendas such as South-South cooperation and climate change in the coming days.
During the meeting, both of them said that as member countries of the G77, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Nepal and Vietnam are working together to protect the interests of developing countries.
