Trump says talks with Iran progressing

President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that his administration was in contact with the appropriate Iranian parties, asserting that Iran was eager to reach a deal to bring the ongoing conflict to a close.

“We are currently in negotiations… We have several people handling this,” Trump told reporters at the White House, naming Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance as the key figures involved.

Despite the diplomatic overtures, Reuters reported — citing two anonymous officials — that the Pentagon is preparing to deploy thousands of soldiers from the elite 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, though the specific destination and timeline were not disclosed.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported Tuesday that the Trump administration has presented Iran with 15 conditions as the basis for ending the war. An Israeli official with knowledge of the matter subsequently confirmed these details to The Times of Israel, though the official expressed doubt that Iran would accept such terms. The official also confirmed that Washington had informed Israel in advance of its negotiations with Tehran, which began Sunday, without clarifying how much notice was given.

The conditions reportedly encompass the full range of both American and Israeli objectives in the conflict.

That said, Channel 12 noted that Israel is concerned the Trump team is pushing for a swift “agreement in principle” rather than requiring Iran to meet all demands before any ceasefire takes effect.

According to three sources cited in the report, Kushner and Witkoff have proposed a mechanism centered on a one-month ceasefire, during which both parties would work toward finalizing a 15-point agreement — an approach similar to previous Trump-brokered deals involving Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Channel 12 described this prospect of a fast, loosely defined agreement as causing significant anxiety among Israel’s political and security leadership, as it risks allowing Iran to emerge from the conflict without having conceded on the core issues.

The report, drawing on a Western source, outlined 14 of the 15 conditions the US has put forward to Iran:

US Demands:

  1. Iran must fully dismantle its existing nuclear infrastructure.
  2. Iran must make a binding commitment to never develop nuclear weapons.
  3. Uranium enrichment on Iranian soil must cease entirely.
  4. Iran must transfer its stockpile of approximately 450 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% purity to the International Atomic Energy Agency, within a mutually agreed timeframe.
  5. The nuclear facilities at Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordo must be permanently shut down and dismantled.
  6. The IAEA must be granted unrestricted access, full transparency, and comprehensive oversight within Iran.
  7. Iran must abandon its strategy of using regional proxy forces.
  8. Iran must stop financing, directing, and supplying weapons to its regional proxies.
  9. The Strait of Hormuz must remain open as a free and unobstructed international waterway.
  10. Iran’s ballistic missile program must be curtailed in both range and number, with exact limits to be negotiated at a later stage.
  11. Any future missile use by Iran must be strictly limited to defensive purposes.
