Texas State Legislature declares March 13 as ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’

Texas, 15 March: The Texas State Legislature of the United States has declared March 13 as ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’.

The Texas State House of Representatives meeting held on Thursday, March 13, made the announcement by passing Resolution 530 recognizing ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day.’ After the resolution was passed, ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’ has received formal recognition from the Texas State House.

The proposal for a ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’ was introduced in the House of Representatives by Pakistani-origin Texas state representative Suleman Lalani. The mayors of five municipalities under Nepal’s Lumbini Circuit, who were on a visit to the United States, were also present when the proposal was passed by the House.

The proposal emphasizes that Lumbini is a sacred place for Buddhism and is recognized as the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama. The region is listed on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and is a major spiritual destination for Buddhists.

The resolution also states that the House of Representatives of the 89th Congress of Texas has officially recognized March 13, 2025, as ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’ and warmly welcomes a delegation of Nepali dignitaries visiting to promote Lumbini.

On the occasion of a delegation including the mayors of five municipalities under the Lumbini Circuit being in Texas, USA, Netra Pandey, Vice President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association of America and Chief of the Department of Tourism, and civic leader Prabhat Dixit, took the initiative to get the resolution passed.

Netra Pandey, Vice President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association of America and Chief of the Department of Tourism, said that ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’ will be celebrated on March 13 every year on behalf of the Nepali community in the state of Texas with the aim of supporting the promotion of Nepal’s tourism.
