Kathmandu, 23 March: A separate desk is to be arranged in the arrival and departure halls of Tribhuvan International Airport for citizens of Nepali origin and non-resident Nepalis scattered around the world.
The Department of Immigration stated that the decision was made to deepen the affinity of non-resident Nepalis (NRNs) and foreign citizens of Nepali origin scattered across various countries toward Nepali language, culture, and the Nepali soil, as well as to promote tourism and investment in Nepal.
The department sent a letter to the Tribhuvan International Airport Office on Sunday to manage a separate desk in the airport’s arrival and departure halls.
The Association of Nepali Origin (ANO), an organization of Nepali-origin people residing around the world, had been drawing the attention of the Government of Nepal and demanding this for a long time. The organization has welcomed the decision after the home administration made this decision on Sunday.
Following the Department of Immigration’s decision on Sunday and its communication to the Tribhuvan International Airport Office, the organization issued a press release expressing gratitude to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and the home administration.
In the press release issued by ANO President Dilli Adhikari, it stated: “This decision by the Ministry of Home Affairs has made citizens of Nepali origin residing around the world feel honored. We believe that the implementation of this decision will greatly contribute to connecting Nepali hearts and Nepali identity with Nepal.”
Specifically, these efforts are aimed at Nepali-origin individuals who hold foreign passports. People of Nepali origin reside in India, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, and many other countries. Now, when they come to Nepal, they will no longer have to stand in line at the foreign desk.
