Saudi Prince Waleed Passes Away After 20 Years in a Coma

Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal Al Saud Passes Away After Two Decades in a Coma

Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal Al Saud, who had been in a coma for nearly two decades, has passed away.

He had been in a coma for 20 years following a severe car accident that left him with critical injuries. Due to his prolonged unconscious state, he became widely known as the “Sleeping Prince.” According to Gulf News, the prince was just 15 years old and undergoing military training in London in 2005 when the accident occurred. He sustained serious brain injuries and internal bleeding.

Despite extensive efforts involving teams of American and Spanish doctors, he never fully regained consciousness. His condition over the years drew widespread sympathy and attention.

Hope for Recovery

Though Prince Waleed remained in a coma, occasional involuntary movements of his body offered glimmers of hope. Because of this, his father, Prince Khalid, publicly rejected medical recommendations to remove life support. Holding firm in his belief in divine miracles, he never gave up hope that his son would recover. Family members often recited verses from the Quran at his bedside, and videos showing slight movements in his limbs were shared publicly—these clips evoked deep sympathy and respect across the nation.

However, on July 19, 2025, a specialized medical center in Saudi Arabia officially announced the death of Prince Waleed. His passing prompted a wave of tributes across the country. The hashtag #SleepingPrince began trending on social media, with thousands remembering him as a symbol of patience, faith, and a father’s unwavering love.

Gulf News reported that heartfelt tributes are also being paid to the prince’s father, who sat by his son’s bedside for years. His unwavering devotion and constant presence have earned widespread admiration and respect from the public.
