Prime Minister Oli’s official visit to China from today

Kathmandu, December 02: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is on a formal visit to the People’s Republic of China from today till December 05 at the friendly invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Li Qiang.

The team led by Prime Minister Oli will arrive in the Chinese capital Beijing at 6:10 pm local time on a special charter flight of Himalaya Airlines at 11 am today. All preparations have been completed for this visit, which is believed to further strengthen the friendly relations between Nepal and China, which has a long history of traditional and friendly relations between the people and the government. The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Sunday has finalized the bilateral agenda and areas of cooperation during the visit. 78 members including 46 from the government and 32 from the private sector will participate in the visit. Eight members will be added to the government delegation from the Nepal Embassy in Beijing. Two of the 46 members of the government team have already reached China during preparations.

During Prime Minister Oli’s visit, MOU (Letter of Expression) has been decided on projects related to the improvement of Kathmandu ring road, the fourth phase of Arani highway improvement, Hilsa-Simikot road project, projects related to organizing the Korola border crossing, Tokha-Chhare tunnel. Similarly, there are projects like starting bone marrow transplant treatment system at BP Koirala Cancer Hospital Chitwan. During the visit of Prime Minister Oli, the discussion has progressed to agree on 100 electric vehicles, 100 police vans, 50 school vans, 50 ambulances.

Similarly, the Cabinet meeting has approved the Memorandum of Understanding between Public Service Broadcasting Organizations (Radio Nepal and Nepal Television) and China Media Group (CMG). There will also be an agreement between the Government of Nepal and the Government of China for the implementation of a volunteer Chinese language teacher training program in Nepal. The cabinet meeting has decided to approve the agreement to accept the proposed financial and technical grant assistance worth 300 million RMB Chinese yuan.

During the visit, the Chinese counterpart Chyang will welcome Prime Minister Oli on December 03, after which there is a program of bilateral talks and a signing ceremony. On the same day, Prime Minister Oli will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. He will also meet with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China Zhao Leji. On December 04, Prime Minister Oli will deliver a key note speech at Peking University and address the Nepal-China Business Forum jointly organized by the Nepali Embassy in Beijing, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Nepal Confederation of Industry and Commerce. There is a visit to the museum on the same day. Prime Minister Oli will return home on December 05th at 2:30 pm.

During the preparation of the visit, the two ruling parties CPN (UML) and the top party of the Nepali Congress and the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ (BRI) at various stages at the institutional level have done their homework on cooperation and cooperation between the two countries. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there will be further discussions on cooperation and cooperation in the fields of connectivity, investment, trade, tourism, agriculture and infrastructure development, among other areas of cooperation and cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Oli held a three and a half hour discussion with former Prime Ministers and former Foreign Ministers at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singh Darbar, on the 25th of November, during the preparations for his visit to China. The meeting of the Council of Ministers on 28th of November approved the visit along with representatives of the government and private sector who will be in the visiting party. During the preparation of the visit, Foreign Minister Dr. Rana returned home after holding a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Chandu, Sichuan Province, China on Friday.

The visiting party includes First Lady Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Prime Minister’s Economic and Development Advisor Dr. Yuvraj Khatiwada, federal parliamentarians, government officials of special ranks including chiefs, private sector representatives, and media persons.

This visit has become a matter of more importance in the context of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China next year. China has recently announced that there will be no visa fee for Nepali tourists and all the traditional borders between Nepal and China have been re-opened regularly. As a result, cross-border movement of citizens, goods and services of both countries has become unrestricted.

Recently, high-level visits are being exchanged between Nepal and China and it is believed that these visits will always strengthen our close and friendly relations and provide new momentum.
