Kathmandu, 31 October: The finals of international football proved to be painful for Nepali women's football. In the last 14 years, when Nepali women's football played the 12th final, it was again recorded as a failed final. Nepal played the 12th international football final and the 6th final of the SAFF Women's Championship in front of 15,000 domestic audience at Dasharath Stadium on 30 October. The Nepali team, which looked confident after winning against the home audience and the five-time winner India in the semi-finals, could not succeed against Bangladesh. Nepal lost 2-1 in the match.
After the first half ended in a draw, Bangladesh took the lead in 52 minutes. Thousands of audience present in the stadium were shocked when Bangladesh's Monika Chakma scored from inside the D-box after the Nepali defender could not clear the ball. Nepal made the audience happy by returning the goal within five minutes. Amisha Karki scored the equalizing goal for Nepal in the 56th minute. She scored a great goal on a pass from the center area by Priti Rai.
But with nine minutes left in the match, Bangladesh took the lead again. Ritu Chakma took the lead for the second time by scoring in the 81st minute. Nepal's goalkeeper and captain Angela Tumbapo Subba couldn't stop the shot from the corner area for the second time.
On Wednesday, Nepal was defeated for the sixth time in the SAFF finals after finishing as runners-up. Nepal also suffered a 3-1 defeat against Bangladesh in the final of the 2022 edition. Nepal has lost twice to Bangladesh and four times to India in the SAFF title.
This is the 12th time that the Nepali women's team has lost in the final of the international tournament. When Nepal was defeated in the 12th final, it became the runner-up again.
