Kathmandu, 2 Nov: This autumn season, the revenue (royalty) collected from mountaineering has been higher than from triple. The mountaineering fee for triple has increased this year compared to last year after the government implemented a new fee structure for mountaineering after 10 years. The government had revised the mountaineering permit fee, which had been in effect since Poush 17, 2071 BS, and implemented the new fee from Shrawan 26 of last year. Besides this, the revenue collection has also increased because the number of climbers has increased compared to the past.
According to Himal Gautam, Director of the Department of Tourism, while revenue collection in past autumn seasons used to be around seven and a half crore rupees, this year, more than twenty-five and a half crore rupees has been deposited in the state treasury. Although other tourism sectors were affected due to the Genz movement, the climbing sector has seen an improvement compared to the past. This year, even mountains that had not been climbed so far have been summited. In this season, considered difficult for Everest climbing, American climber Jim Morrison set a record by skiing down from the North Col of Everest after completing his ascent.
He informed that in the autumn season of 2023, 7 crore 81 lakh rupees were collected, and in the same period in 2024, 7 crore 63 lakh rupees were collected, whereas this year, revenue of 25 crore 51 lakh 65 thousand 436 rupees has been collected.
He stated that in the autumn season of 2023, 1,326 climbers from 170 teams had obtained permits, and in the same season of 2024, 1,280 climbers from 158 teams had obtained permits, whereas this year, 1,450 individuals from 175 teams have obtained climbing permits. Among the permit holders are 345 women and 1,105 men from 83 countries, including Nepal. Among the 54 mountain climbing permits issued by the Department this season, the highest number, 374 individuals, have taken permission to climb Manaslu. From Manaslu climbing alone, revenue of 15 crore 76 lakh 40 thousand 195 rupees has been collected.
According to the Department, among the 461 mountains currently open for climbing in Nepal, the Numbur mountain located in Solududhkunda Municipality-1 of Solukhumbu, which was among the 102 mountains that had not been climbed, has been successfully climbed for the first time this season.
The Department informed that citizens Adam from Poland, Felix from Germany, and Herve from Italy placed their first steps on the summit of Numbur, which is 6,958 meters high, after 15 hours of arduous effort. Although Japanese (in 1963) and French (in 1981) climbing teams had attempted to climb Numbur before, they were not successful.
