Birgunj (Parsa) 24 February: Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav has said that Nepal’s hospitals are making strides in eye treatment. Inaugurating the golden jubilee of Ram Kumar Mahabir Prasad Kedia Eye Hospital here today, he said that making strides in the field of eye treatment is a matter of pride not only for this region but also for the entire country.
“Kediya Eye Hospital has been providing quality health services not only to the people of Madhesh Madhesh but also to the people of Bagmati and neighboring countries,” Vice President Yadav said. “I am happy that this hospital, which is run with the objective of directly benefiting the residents of Bara and Parsa districts of Madhesh Province from its skilled manpower, has recently been providing public services to the people of Makawanpur in Bagmati Province, Rautahat and western parts of Sarlahi in Madhesh Province, and the people of neighboring Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in India.”
Vice President Yadav said that Kedia Eye Hospital has been providing easy access to eye patients for the past 50 years. “This hospital, which is an important part of this sector, has been providing high-quality health services in eye treatment since its establishment,” he said, adding, “The eye hospital has also been expanding its services in a timely manner. I request you to provide more quality eye treatment services in the coming days.” Vice President Yadav also requested that the eye hospital be developed as a model hospital in the country.
“It is also necessary for the hospital to remember its 50 years of contribution and improve on past shortcomings to grow,” he said. “I request the hospital to further strengthen its high-level treatment services and move forward towards solving the problems seen in Drishti.” Uprashtra Yadav also laid the foundation stone of the Drishti pillar constructed on the occasion of the hospital’s golden jubilee on Monday and the proposed new building of the hospital.
Rajesh Kumar Kedia, Chairman of Ram Kumar Mahavir Prasad Kedia Eye Hospital, said that the five-bed eye hospital in Loharpatti, Birgunj, 50 years ago has now been developed into a well-equipped hospital with 175 beds.
“Over the course of 50 years, the hospital has treated the eyes of more than 2.7 million patients. During that period, we have also performed eye surgeries on around 400,000 patients. Out of which, we have performed eye surgeries on 182,000 people free of charge,” he said. “In the coming days, we will also announce the establishment of an eye bank, making the hospital’s services even higher.”
On the same occasion, Prof. Dr. Sunu Dulal was honored with the Late Hiralal Kedia Award. He was honored with a cash prize of Rs. 251,151. Similarly, wheelchairs were also provided to visually impaired children and physically disabled people along with cash. Prof. Dr. Chetraj Panta, President of the Netra Jyoti Sangh, Prof. Dr. Dev Narayan Sah said that there has been a great improvement in eye treatment in Nepal in recent times.
