Kathmandu, 20 Jan: Nomination papers for the House of Representatives member election are being registered simultaneously across the country on Tuesday. The Election Commission has appealed to all concerned to participate in the nomination process on the scheduled date for the upcoming House of Representatives election. The Commission has also made it clear that there will be no revision to the election schedule.
On the eve of the nomination registration, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari urged everyone not to have any doubts about the election being conducted in a clean, free, fair, and fear-free environment. He said, “There is no alternative to elections. Since there is no other option, the Election Commission sincerely requests cooperation from all sectors so that the election can be completed successfully.”
He also stated that since the announcement of the election, the Commission has been moving forward immediately by preparing and implementing the election schedule. He informed that the schedule set for Magh 6 has not been amended.
Acting Chief Commissioner Bhandari said, “All programs have been implemented according to the schedule published four months ago. There will be no changes, additions, or reductions to any aspect now. Nomination papers will be filed on the designated date, and the election will be completed as scheduled. The Commission is confident about this.”
Regarding disputes within the Nepali Congress, he said that the Commission would not comment on matters currently under consideration in the court. He added that everyone must abide by court orders once issued, but it would not comment on ongoing judicial proceedings at this time.
Bhandari stated that elections are a beautiful democratic practice through which citizens choose their representatives. He said, “The beauty of democracy lies in the right to choose and to be chosen. It also reflects the free will of voters. No one can suppress the will of the people. Everyone has an equally important role in this process. The Commission believes that all stakeholders will cooperate sincerely to ensure the successful conduct of the election.”
He also mentioned that candidates would be allowed to exercise the right of proxy during the nomination process. He urged candidates not to engage in activities prohibited by law and the code of conduct while maintaining their candidacy.
Under the House of Representatives member election, nomination registration will take place in all 165 constituencies on Tuesday. On Magh 2, offices of election officers were established in all 165 constituencies.
