Gulmi Festival’ to be held from Chaitra 29

Gulmi, 30 March: ‘Gulmi Festival’ is going to be held in Tamghas, the district headquarters, from the last week of Chaitra. The festival is being organized by the Gulmi Chamber of Commerce from April 11 to 25 April 2025.

Durga Prasad Pandey, President of the District Chamber of Commerce, informed that an agriculture, tourism and trade fair is being organized in Tamghas, the district headquarters, with the objective of ‘Gulmi’s prosperity, agriculture, tourism industry and trade’. According to him, this is the second time that the fair is being organized by the Chamber of Commerce. He said that 150,000 visitors are expected to visit the fair and that an economic turnover of Rs 300 million is expected.

Birendra Bhusal, Senior Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce, said that the festival is being held with the aim of making the market dynamic at a time when economic activity in the district is decreasing. He informed that the main objective of the festival, which will be held for two weeks, is to showcase and promote local agricultural and domestic products, folk art and culture, and promote tourist areas.

The organizers have stated that free stalls will be arranged for agricultural and domestic products. In the past, most of the festivals held in the district were held at the playground of Mahendra Secondary School in Chidichaur, but since last year, the district-based industry association has stated that they have started organizing them outside Chidichaur.

According to reports, the festival was organized in Upper Tamghas last year. Now, the Gulmi Chamber of Commerce is going to organize the festival in Nunthala, near the prison in Tamghas. Chairman Pandey said that the festival is going to be held by renting 10 ropanis of land from the locals. According to him, 17 sub-committees have been formed to make the festival effective.

The secretariat, economic, cultural, stall, and handicrafts work will be coordinated through a subcommittee, informed Surya Ghimire, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce. He expressed confidence that the festival will promote tourism in the district and boost economic activities.
