Fulfilling aspirations for development, prosperity is true tribute to martyrs: President

Kathmandu, Jan 29: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that moving ahead towards fulfilling the aspiration for development and prosperity alone would be a true tribute to the martyrs.

In a message of best wishes he gave on the occasion of the Martyrs Day today, the Head of State stated that true condolences to the martyrs would be to move forward towards meeting the aspiration for sustainable peace, good governance, development and prosperity by means of the federal democratic republican governance system achieved from the sacrifice of the great martyrs.

The President expressed the belief that the Martyrs Day would give further inspiration for sincerely fulfilling the role we all have to play from our side to materialize the aspirations of the martyrs while highly regarding their sacrifices.

“On the occasion of the Martyrs Day, 2081 BS(2025), I extend my heartfelt tribute to all the known and unknown martyrs, including the great martyrs Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand, Gangalal Shrestha, who gave their valuable life for establishing civic freedom and democracy, and for protection of nationality,” he said. President Paudel noted that the Martyrs Day is a day of special remembrance of the great martyrs who sacrificed their life for the country.

The day is observed every year on Magh 16 in memory of the brave heroes who sacrificed their lives in the democratic revolution and democratic people’s movement against the Rana oligarchy, the Panchayat system and monarchy to make the Nepali people sovereign citizens. “Sacrificing one’s precious life for the welfare of the people and the nation is martyrdom. May this Day inspire and encourage all the political parties, the general public and all concerned to dedicate their heart, words and deeds to realize the aspirations of the martyrs who have attained martyrdom for the independence of the Nation and the Nepali people,” the President said in his message.

Vice President’s message

On the occasion, Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav said that the valor of martyrs is the inspiration for all for building a prosperous nation. The Vice President stated this in a message of best wishes he gave on the occasion of the Martyrs Day today. Vice President said the courage of the martyrs was an inspiration for all to build a socially and economically firm, strong and developed country along with a self-reliant economy.

He also paid tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, inclusiveness, ending all forms of discrimination and establishing a federal democratic republic. On the occasion of Martyrs Day, Vice President Yadav has called upon all to work together for the progress, development and prosperity of the country by further consolidating and strengthening the spirit of unity by embracing the ideals and values of the martyrs.

Dedicating oneself for more rights is a tribute to martyrs: Chairman Dahal

National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal has said that the true tribute to the martyrs would be to dedicate ourselves to further rights while protecting and consolidating the achievements.

Issuing a message on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, he paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in various movements for the rights of the country and the people at different times. He also expressed his high respect for the missing warriors and wished for the recovery of the injured warriors.

Magh 16 (Jan 29)is a day of special respect and remembrance for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the self-respect and freedom of Nepal and the Nepalese people. Chairman Dahal has mentioned that this day is a day to resolve to fulfill the dreams and commitments made by the martyrs for the liberation and change of the country and the people.

He said that while celebrating Martyrs’ Day at the state level, true respect for the martyrs will be shown by appreciating their contribution and giving due respect, protection and guardianship to the families of the martyrs. From Nepal’s first martyr Lakhan Thapa Magar to the movement against the Rana period, the change of 2007 BS, the people’s uprising, the people’s movement, the just armed movements led by different classes, castes, regions, genders and communities for identity and rights, and various people’s struggles, it has been possible to establish a federal democratic republican system in Nepal.

Stating that it was institutionalized by the constitution promulgated in 2072 BS(2016), Chairman Dahal expressed his belief that Martyrs’ Day will inspire everyone to honestly implement the constitution to protect and strengthen the federal democratic republic.
