FRANCE-URBANISM-SOCIAL

Workers look at a residential building being dismantled in the Pissevin district, in Nimes, southeastern France, on August 6, 2024. Major renovation work has begun in the Pissevin district, where half the inhabitants are under 25 and 70% live below the poverty line, with a strong feeling of being abandoned. Nearly 270 million euros of public money (State, local authorities and social landlords) will be spent over the next three years on “transforming the district, with the demolition or rehabilitation of deteriorated housing, the construction of new housing and shops, and the creation of high-quality public spaces and facilities”, according to the Gard prefecture, the city and the metropolis of Nimes.
