Kathmandu, 15 March: Filmmakers have emphasized that they should be able to create with confidence. At a gathering of filmmakers organized at Mandala Theatre House on Friday evening, actor Dayahang Rai said that as an actor, he feels pressured to think about all aspects while reading the script.
He said, “Films are called the mirror of society, so both positive and negative aspects are shown there. By showing the bad, we should depict the wrong situation that it causes and show scenes that need to be corrected or positive. However, if we start working by narrowing ourselves down in every subject, it will diminish our creativity.”
Director Deepak Rauniyar said that there should be an environment where one can confidently bring the environment and story of one’s country into the film. He said that he disagreed with the strictness imposed on the context of his film ‘Rajaganj’.

Filmmaker Deepak Raj Giri said that while choosing the subject of a film, he keeps in mind the obstacles that may arise during the screening. “When we feel that we have to face unnecessary problems in the screening of films, the writer feels that he is constrained in the characters and environment he creates there. He has not been able to show the social environment that he wanted to express in the film,” he said.
Director Ashok Sharma said that since there is a practice in the world of classifying films rather than cutting them, the concerned bodies should be informed and urged to do so.
Director Naveen Subba said that the intention of filmmakers is not to spoil the harmony of the society but to present ideas while providing entertainment. He said that it is necessary to discuss with the concerned bodies the issue of ‘censorship’ of films that is heard from time to time. Directors Ganeshdev Pandey, Upendra Subba, Binod Poudel, Manoj Pandit, and others participated in the gathering.
