CONTRIBUTION OF ASOKA IN LUMBINI

Kathmandu, 28 Aug: The Lord Buddha after obtained Buddhahood, many rulers and other Buddhist followers wanted to spread Buddhisim, but they cannot success. Ashoka is famous for spread Buddhism and too contributed than others

 Once upon a time Buddha and his disciple Anandha was going to for alms in a village. Their three babies were playing in sand. A baby gives grip sand to Buddha with faith, saying to eatable thing. But Buddha cannot take to easily for unbalance of height because a baby was very tiny boy. Other two small boys bent down to land and tiny boy was climbed to their back. So, the small tiny boy to gave sand to the lord Buddha. As a result to proffer sand Ashoka had born in mourya clan.

 Chandragupta ruled Magadha state and later his son was Bindasar. He had five hundred ministersand had captured northern himalayan part of India during his time. Bindasar had meet with a beautiful lady clan of barber, whose husband was died due to the bite of snake. They had got married  and to gave birth Ashoka, during that time Bindasar’s mother had died and he had stricken by great grief. So they decided to keep child name is Ashoka. That means baby Ashoka less the grief of his mother demise. Ashoka was born in 294 BC. When he had grown up gradually he had got skills of arts and education according to his father’s instructions. He had got successful in every field to his father’s instructions, so his father was very happy.

Meantime powerful ruler “Chamasha” had died, who had twelve sons but they were quarrelsome. So the condition of state was diffused. Besides king “Chamasha” and “Bindasar” had not good relation and they had conflict anytime King Bindasar had six sons from previous married queen. The Ashoka was youngest than six brothers and had born from kept mother. So he had to take permission to his father and shifted to pataliputra (now in patna) and began to rule some small state.

He had four queens and lead to life was luxurious, so he was known as Lustful Ashoka. Meantime king Bindasar was seriously ill and to be anxious for rule of state because Ashoksa was from the son of kept wife. He had two wise ministers; according to their advice king Bindasar to hand over the power of state to Ashoka. King Bindasar had violated the rule of law because the real state power had his seven sons. Despite those obstacles, Bindasar made king Ashoka and died in 273 BC. After became a ruler he had killed his six elder brothers along with five hundred ministers. After eight years in a fierce battle of the Kalinga war (Now in Andra Pradesh and Orrisa) had killed one hundred thousand peoples, several were wounded and 2.5 lakhs peoples were confined in prison.

After the time of battle, Ashoka was not satisfied if anybody punished or killed so he was known as “Chandal Ashoka” (Fearful Ashoka). He had captured India, Afghanistan, Pakistan and some parts of Nepal etc. At that time non-Buddhist Aryan suggested him if offering a pray of ten thousand men his state become more strong and he become successful ruler. He made huge building for offering pray of man. He had meat a butcher at Trihuti who said to Ashoka “I can massacre ten thousand men”.

He believed him and order as consequences five thousand were lost their life by that butcher. One day a disciple Arhat was begging alms, suddenly he missed way and reached butcher’s house. Butcher wanted to kill him but arhat requested him not to kill till seven days. Butcher obey him request. After seven days butcher to heat big oil bowl and stick him for kill. But arhat is not died because he obtained miracle magic (Riddi) by mediation in seven days. He surprised and invited to king Ashoka. When he saw king try to kill him so, Ashoka asked him “Why you are trying to kill me”. He replied your previous order.

They conflict each other meantime arhat had fly in the sky as lighting flash and showed riddi powers. After this event Ashoka and butcher to stop there fight and respected him bent down head to his feet. The arhat explained about well deed and misdeed so they were converted in to positive ideology. Ashoka asked him” How can we achive the virtious life”? Arhat replied him i can’t answer abuot it, i asked my teacher Kritidhwaja. Ashoka begd to permission to meet him teacher and he meet him. He gets huge knowledge about religious merit and repetence of his misdeed. Kritidhwaja told Ashoka if you wash your previous misdeed and sin you make crore stupas. Ashoka replied him it is not possible for me. Kritidhwaja told him you could because you are those people who proffered fist sand to Buddha with faith. So he knows real about him and he decided to remain life is devoted to Buddha.

Empire Ashoka managed to feed for thirty thousand nuns and monks in everyday. So his religious merit was increased and Nagas (serpent) were angry and they create obstructions. A group of five hundred merchants had gone to bring Jewells at sea but Nags hide them and create obstructions for eating and drinking. Meantime Ashoka made two statues on the pillars in that place and on the one pillar kept Ashoka statue and on the other statue of Naga. Kritidhwja said, if well worship of Triratna, existence of Ashoka increases and decrease of Nagas existence. Again Ashoka invited seventy thousand Arhats and well worshiped of Triratna. After three months the statue of Nagas were bent down towards the Ashoka statue. They realized the worship of Triratna is powerful and worshiped continuously. After seven days Nagas were formed in to human being and to bring the gems as a merchant to the doors of Ashoka.

Ashoka started to make ten million stupas, in these stupas to keep of relics of Buddha. When Buddha was died, eight states divided into eight parts of his relics. The son of Bimbisar was found one part and he kept safely in a huge sputa. But that one part was increase in seven and Ashoka had got one part from him. Ashoka reached Bodh Gaya and ordered to god and goddess.

The first night he made 55m.height stupa with others eight. Second night, he made stupa in each place where Buddha birth place Lumbini visited and he got enlightenment Bodh Gaya, the first Dissemination of Buddha religion at Beneras, Buddha Nirvana place Kushinagar, to long live pray for Buddha at Nalanda, to got victory of six non- Buddhist teachers Sravasti (Sravasti  is the place where he conquered evil) (Sahet-mahet) Buddha  had gone to Trasyatrisma and told his mother about sermon and he descend at Samakasya. (Trayastrisma is the place he descended from among the gods) Rajagraha (Rajagraha is the place where he reconciled a schism)(Eight Holy Places) where buddha’s disciples were quarrelsome.

Third night he made ten million stupas where Buddha had not been. Fourth night he proffered to Buddha’s relics in eight stupas. Fifth night he had proffered Buddha’s relics for ten millions stupas. Sixth and seventh night he climbed to two powerful Yaksas’ (demon) shoulder and visited all over the world where he made stupas and worshiped. Indeed that two Yaksas’s were those who were bent down to the ground when Ashoka proffered fist sand to Buddha. Eight night millions Arhats and nuns were assembled and installation of stupas with well worshiped.

After this all event, he prayed to Buddha for obtain to Buddhahood and purified by his misdeeds and sin. That time for good omen held earthquake, rain flowers from the sky. He promised to give ten million gold coins for Arhats, monks and nuns. He thought how to kept well nuns monks and Arhats. During that time Brahmans were slaughter to animals and they used to eat meat. When he prohibited to massacre state had been as, heaven. He got supported from his relative’s dissemination of Buddhist religion all over the world.

Elder son of Ashoka Kunala was skillful musician and he had playing music in all over city. He was like as wanton but, kind man so he had donated his eye and obtained shrotapan.(previous step of Arhat) Ashoka’s daughter Sanghmitta, son Mahinda was contributed to dissemination of Buddhist message in Sri Lanka. They became monk and nun and dissemination Buddhist religion all over the world. Ashoka gave great contribution for Buddhist message and he was known as “Dharma Ashoka”. Finally he entrust to monks and nuns responsibility and authority of state. He used to say selfish is very harmful and insignificant for mankind. He said to all my alive medicine is a fist myrobalan. He ruled forty-one years and he passed away in 232 BC.
