Kathmandu, 12 Sep: In response to the recent developments in Nepal, the United Nations, friendly nations, and the international community have called for a peaceful resolution through dialogue. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has urged all sides to seek constructive solutions via dialogue. Expressing concern over the tragic deaths of Nepali citizens during recent violent protests, he said in a statement that he is closely monitoring the situation.
In his statement, he mentioned:
“I am following the situation in Nepal closely. The loss of lives is deeply saddening. I also call for impartial and thorough investigations.” He further urged all parties to exercise restraint to prevent further violence and to pave the way for constructive solutions through dialogue.
Guterres also advised the Government of Nepal and relevant authorities to fully uphold human rights laws. He appealed to demonstrators to protest peacefully and remain committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens. The UN had earlier expressed shock over Monday’s violent incidents that claimed the lives of several youths, calling it tragic and urging impartial investigation and accountability for those responsible.

No Alternative to Dialogue
Nepal’s two close neighbors, India and China, have expressed sorrow over the unfolding situation, stressing that there is no alternative to peaceful protest and dialogue. In a statement issued by India’s Foreign Minister, New Delhi said it has been closely monitoring events in Nepal since Monday. India expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of several young people during the violent protests.
The statement read:
“As a close friend and neighbor, we hope all concerned will exercise restraint and address any issues through peaceful means and dialogue.” India’s Foreign Ministry also advised Indian citizens in Nepal to remain cautious and follow instructions issued by Nepali authorities.
China too expressed sorrow, emphasizing Nepal and China’s historic friendship. Through its Foreign Ministry statement, Beijing said it believes Nepal will resolve this domestic issue in the right way and restore peace and stability on its own as soon as possible.
Similarly, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed sorrow over the situation in Nepal. Calling the deaths of youths during protests tragic, he said through social media that the U.S. government will always stand with Nepal.
Meanwhile, embassies of various countries in Nepal also expressed grief over the violence and loss of life.

Joint Statement from Embassies
In a joint statement, embassies said:
“We express deep sorrow over the violent incidents witnessed in Kathmandu and other parts of Nepal. We are saddened by the tragic loss of lives and injuries caused by these incidents.”
They extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Embassies of Australia, Finland, France, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States in Nepal jointly issued a statement reaffirming their governments’ strong support for the universal rights of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression. They appealed to all parties to exercise maximum restraint, prevent further escalation, and seek peaceful solutions while ensuring full protection of citizens’ fundamental rights.
The European Union also expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and violence during the protests in Nepal. It called for independent investigations into the incidents. The EU urged all sides to exercise utmost restraint and for security forces to take every necessary measure to protect lives. The statement further emphasized that dialogue among all parties is essential to resolve disagreements and safeguard fundamental rights.
