A Two-Week Ceasefire between the US and Iran

Amid rising military tensions between the United States and Iran, signs of temporary relief have emerged. U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a two-week suspension of military action. According to Trump, following this decision, Israel has also agreed to halt its attacks.

Writing on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump confirmed a temporary halt to bombings and strikes against Iran, describing the move as an initial step toward a broader ceasefire. According to Nepal’s *Nagarik* news, the decision came after discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir, who had urged the U.S. to avert a potential strike.

Trump clarified that the ceasefire is conditional, stating that Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz maritime route. He emphasized that reopening this strategic waterway is essential to reducing tensions. “This will be a bilateral ceasefire,” Trump said. “During this period, both sides are expected to cease offensive activities.”

He also claimed that U.S. military objectives have already been met and noted progress toward a long-term peace agreement. According to Trump, a ten-point peace proposal has been received from Iran, which he considers a practical basis for negotiations. He asserted that preliminary agreements have already been reached on most key issues.

Trump expressed hope that the two-week pause would give both sides the time needed to reach a final settlement, signaling a possible resolution to the long-standing conflict. This announcement came just before a deadline previously set by Trump, who had earlier issued stark warnings, including threatening to “end civilization” — widely interpreted as a nuclear threat — which drew criticism even within the United States.

Following the ceasefire announcement, the White House also responded. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the negotiation process would continue and that the way forward would be guided by President Trump’s statements. Leavitt claimed that the U.S. administration had successfully persuaded Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and that further diplomatic dialogue would now proceed. Upcoming talks are reportedly scheduled to be held in Pakistan. However, the international community remains watchful as to whether the negotiations in Pakistan will yield concrete results.
