A thirty kilo khukuri!

Rampur (Palpa), 8 February: The price of a single Khukuri may be unbelievable at 111,000 rupees. It is surprising to hear this. Santosh Bishwakarma has prepared a Khukuri weighing thirty kilograms and costing 111,111 rupees.

The Khukuri he prepared is on display at the ongoing 4th Rampur Festival and Trade Fair in Rampur. Khukuri is currently becoming the main attraction of the fair. He said that he has prepared a 30-kilogram Khukuri to preserve the importance of Khukuri, which is considered a symbol of Nepali pride, and to inform the new generation.

The 30-kilogram Khukuri he has prepared is eight feet long and weighs 42 kilograms including the handle. Bishwakarma says that he prepared the Khukuri in 20 days with the help of three people. He said that the cost of making the Khukuri, excluding the labor cost, was  30,000 rupees. The Khukuri that Bishwakarma has put up in the exhibition is winning the hearts of the audience.

It has garnered a lot of attention as visitors to the fair, finding it interesting, began observing the Khukuri, taking photos, videos, and making TikToks and posting them on social media. In addition to the Khukuri, Bishwakarma has also put up iron tools for agricultural and household purposes for sale during the fair.

“The pride of Nepalis is the Khukuri. To inform the new generation about its importance, I have been taking it for exhibition at local fairs and festivals. Along with the Khukuri, I have been putting other tools required for agricultural and household purposes on display,” he said.

4th Rampur Festival and Trade fair

Bishwakarma, the operator of Bishwakarma Aran Udyog in Waling Municipality-8, Syangja, said that he has been making khukuri as people are looking for them for home decoration. He informed that earlier, a 13 kg khukuri was sold for 45,000 rupees and a 20 kg khukuri for 55,000 rupees.

The fourth Rampur Festival and Trade Fair, organized by the Rampur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, began on 28 January and will continue until February 9. The attraction of visitors to local products at the fair is increasing.
