Diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing war between the United States and Iran have shown signs of progress, raising hopes for a possible agreement between the two countries. Meanwhile, Iran is considering proposals put forward by Qatar on several sensitive nuclear issues that it had previously refused to discuss.
According to a Bloomberg report published Friday, citing a diplomat familiar with the negotiations, Tehran is reviewing Qatari proposals concerning nuclear issues that were previously considered off-limits. The development comes as negotiations between Washington and Tehran appear to be making progress toward a possible agreement to end the conflict.
Meanwhile, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation on Friday. According to an official statement from Qatar, the two leaders discussed diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions.
Qatar has been playing a mediating role between the United States and Iran, seeking to ease tensions and facilitate negotiations aimed at ending the war.
However, diplomatic efforts have continued alongside military warnings from both sides. The Iranian Army spokesman warned on Friday that if the United States attacked Iran, Iranian forces would strike American targets without geographical limitations. The warning signaled Tehran’s readiness to respond to any renewed US military action.
In a separate development, the naval force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Friday that two oil tankers had struck naval mines and caught fire while attempting to pass through what it described as unauthorized routes in the Strait of Hormuz. Independent confirmation of the incident was not immediately available.
On the US side, Trump met with his top national security advisers on Thursday to discuss possible military action against Iran. Following the meeting, he said a decision on whether to launch renewed strikes against Iran would be made soon.
According to Axios, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) is finalizing preparations for possible major combat operations against Iran. However, it has not yet received any new orders to begin military action.
The latest developments highlight the uncertainty surrounding the conflict, with diplomatic negotiations offering a possible path toward peace while military preparations and mutual threats continue. The outcome of discussions over Iran’s nuclear programme is expected to play a crucial role in determining whether the two sides can reach an agreement.
