Kathmandu, 03 Sep: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to return home on Wednesday after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit at the friendly invitation of President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China. Prime Minister Oli had left for Tianjin, China, on August 30, leading a 23-member Nepali delegation.
During the visit, Prime Minister Oli met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin. He also addressed the summit. Nepal has been a dialogue partner of the organization since 2016. Established in 2001, the SCO has developed into one of the world’s largest regional organizations. China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus are its full members.
Afghanistan and Mongolia are observer states. Nepal, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates are dialogue partners of the organization.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli met with some world leaders participating in the summit. Similarly, Prime Minister Oli met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing on Tuesday. During the visit, Prime Minister Oli had separate meetings with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Mizzou, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Dr. Somdek Moha Borvor Tipahde Hun Mahanet, Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Sotheby’s Siphandon, and Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Pham Minh Ching.
Prime Minister Oli is accompanied by his wife Radhika Shakya, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Raghuji Pant, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey, Nepali Congress MP Purna Bahadur Khadka, Economic and Development Advisor to the Prime Minister Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada, Nepal Communist Party (UML) MP Chhabilal Bishwakarma and high-level government officials.
