As the deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump to open the Strait of Hormuz approaches, the President of Iran has affirmed that more than 14 million citizens are ready to sacrifice their lives in defense of the country. President Masoud Pezeshkian posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating that he too is ready to give his life for the nation.
“More than 14 million proud Iranians have declared they are ready to dedicate their lives to the defense of Iran. I have been, am, and will be a sacrifice for Iran,” he wrote. Earlier, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Sports, Alireza Rahimi, had called on athletes, artists, students, and teachers to form a “human chain” around power plants. This move was linked to the ultimatum set by U.S. President Trump, in which he warned that if Iran does not resume shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, all power plants and major bridges in the country would be bombed.
Trump said at the White House on Monday, “If Iran does not come to an agreement by Tuesday at 8:00 PM Eastern Time, all major bridges and power plants in the country will be destroyed.” According to him, this could be a plan to “target the entire country overnight.” The Iranian President’s call came as a response to the American threat, encouraging youth and citizens to take an active role in their own defense and the protection of national assets. Trump described this as a “critical period,” stating that Iran has been given enough time to negotiate and that the consequences will now be seen immediately.
The escalating rhetoric between the two nations has raised global concerns over a potential military confrontation, with world leaders urging restraint and diplomatic solutions to avoid a catastrophic conflict in the strategically sensitive Persian Gulf region. The world leaders must unite to make a ceasefire agreement.
