The price of gold in the global market has soared to $2,330 per ounce. In Nepal, the price of gold has reached a record high of NPR 136,200 per tola, making it unaffordable for the average person. However, it might be surprising to learn that there is a hotel in the world that is gold-plated.
While buying and wearing gold jewelry has become a hot topic, a palace with gold-plated decorations has been established in Vietnam.
Many buildings around the world are famous for their designs. These buildings have such unique designs and modern facilities that people are amazed when they see them. One such building is in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. In fact, this building is a hotel, and it is the world’s first five-star hotel made of gold.
In this hotel, everything from the walls to the toilet seats is made of 24-carat gold. It is the only hotel in the world entirely gold-plated.
However, this hotel is not made of solid gold. But everything from the walls to the tiles is gold-plated. Moreover, the utensils and toilet seats are also gold-plated. This means that the entire hotel is gold-plated.
What are the facilities?
This five-star hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam, is called ‘The Dolce Hanoi Golden Lake.’ It has 25 floors and 342 rooms. The tiles on the walls and floors of this hotel are gold-plated. The staff’s dress code is red.
The hotel has a gold-plated infinity pool, a gold-plated lobby, and gold-plated tiles. Additionally, there is a gold-plated elevator in the hotel.
In the bathrooms, everything is gold-plated. The bathroom has a gold-plated bathtub, sinks, and toilet. The furniture and appliances are also made of gold.
It took about 11 years to build this hotel. Construction started in 2009, and the hotel was officially opened in July 2020.
Hotel charges per night from NPR 32,000 to over NPR 750,000
The starting price for a one-night stay at this hotel is around NPR 32,000. The rate for a double bedroom suite is around NPR 125,000 per night, while the suite’s price is about NPR 776,000. The hotel has all the amenities, including a gaming club, swimming pool, casino, and poker game.
Even those who cannot stay in this gold-plated hotel can enjoy coffee in a gold cup. They can also bathe in the gold-plated bathtub, but this will require a separate payment.
Who are the owners of this hotel?
This hotel is owned by Nguyen Huu Duong, chairman of the Bin Group. The Hoa Binh Group is one of the top tourism and event providers. Some of its popular hotels include Somerset Hoa Binh, Dolce Hanoi Golden Lake, and Da Nang Golden Bay.
According to Duong, many items in this hotel, from the entrance to the roof, are either made of gold or gold-plated.
The hotel, built at a cost of about 100 million dollars, has everything from the corridors and rooms to the cutlery and toilet seats gold-plated. It is the world’s first self-proclaimed gold-plated hotel.
Hotel affected by COVID-19
The tourism industry worldwide was badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, and Vietnam was no exception. Vietnam’s strategy against the pandemic was highly praised. Due to the pandemic, the hotel could not generate much revenue in the past year.
However, in 2021, the hotel management expected revenue from this hotel. The owners of ‘Dolce Hanoi Golden Lake’ hoped to earn money the following year.
Gold-plated hotel up for auction
In March 2023, the Hanoi Golden Lake Hotel was put up for sale. Media reports indicated that the hotel was put up for auction. The starting price was set at 250 million dollars. The hotel’s owner, Duong, stated that they were selling the property due to a lack of funds to compensate employees and pay interest.
During this time, about 10 interested investors were negotiating the price. Duong had expected the price to be higher due to the attractive business value of the hotel.
However, news later emerged that Duong had abruptly canceled the auction.
Duong’s Hoa Binh Group currently has about 9,000 square meters of land in Hanoi and plans to build a social housing project. But after almost a year of waiting, the project has not been approved, complicating the company’s situation further.
