Dunkhark: A new mediation skills training organized by the Judicial Committee of Bethanchok Rural Municipality has been successfully completed. The training, held from February 15 to 22, covered 30 participants from all six wards of the municipality, as informed by Tara Rana Timalsina, Vice-Chairperson of the Rural Municipality and Coordinator of the Judicial Committee.
During the certificate distribution ceremony on Wednesday, Vice-Chairperson Timalsina emphasized the importance of seeking solutions through dialogue. She noted that the Judicial Committee, established under the Local Government Operation Act, 2074, not only has the authority to resolve disputes but also plays a crucial role in delivering justice at the community level and fostering social harmony. She encouraged mediators to create an environment where disputes are resolved thoroughly and without lingering issues. Timalsina expressed satisfaction that Bethanchok has emerged as a leader in justice delivery among the 13 local municipalities in the district this year. Out of a total of 36 cases received this fiscal year, 10 have been settled orally, 26 have been registered, 10 have been reconciled, 8 have been decided, 2 dismissed, 1 annulled, 2 withdrawn, and 3 are still pending.
Administrative Officer Rajendra Bhandari urged the trainees to effectively utilize their jurisdiction, adhere to procedural standards, and ensure transparent and impartial roles. He highlighted that Bethanchok Rural Municipality is leading in governance activities among the municipalities in Kavre and has achieved top rankings in institutional self-assessment across various governance metrics.
Chief Trainer Ramila Humagai encouraged participants to work in a way that creates a win-win environment and to mend broken relationships as if stitching them together. Participant Kailash Timalsina noted that the training provided clarity on previously misunderstood aspects. Krishna Timalsina, Head of the Judicial Branch, explained that the training aimed to equip participants with the knowledge to maintain harmony and facilitate judicial mediation at the community level. The program was attended by Ward Chairman and Judicial Committee member Kuber Dhakal, Judicial Committee member and Executive Member Dil Kumari Tamang, among others. The training was facilitated by the Organization for Peace and Cooperation, Nepal.
