Dunkhark: Parvati Secondary School, a leading community school in southern Kavre selected by the Nepal Government for sample development, celebrated its 64th annual anniversary in a grand event.
The ceremony was held under the chief guestship of God Bhagat, Chairman of Bethanchok Rural Municipality. During the event, Chairman Bhagat emphasized that education is the primary foundation for individual development. He highlighted that education not only cultivates language, dress, and cultural traditions but also contributes to social and economic advancement, and helps in developing a civilized, ethical, and principled society. He stressed the need for local governments to invest sustainably in education. Bhagat also pointed out that if education fails to strengthen society, the economy, culture, and politics, it could indicate insufficient investment in the sector, urging the state to commit to educational investments. He suggested integrating traditional educational methods with contemporary demands.
The program also featured remarks from Tara Rana Timalsina, Vice-Chairperson of the municipality, who highlighted the responsibility of local governments for secondary education as per the Local Government Operation Act, 2074. She urged teachers to meet the challenges posed by the current private school-oriented environment by providing quality education. Prem Bahadur Timalsina, former chairman of the municipality, underscored the need for sustainable investment in education to elevate human development, governance, economic, physical, social progress, and happiness.
During the event, various contributions were recognized, including the unveiling of commemorative plaques for donors who contributed over NPR 10,000 during the Week of Knowledge Mahayagya held in 2009 BS. Land donors and contributors were honored, and various individuals who made significant contributions throughout the year were also recognized. Retired teacher Baburam Timalsina was honored for his contribution to education. Scholarships were awarded to 36 students from established endowments, and awards were given for excellence in various activities, including the best student in SEE and Class 12.
The program included a presentation on the school’s activities and annual plan by Principal Govinda Prasad Sharma, who thanked all attendees including parents, teachers, students, donors, former students, social workers, intellectuals, and well-wishers. The event also featured trophies, medals, and certificates for winners of various sports competitions. The program was held with a strong presence of public representatives, party members, former teachers, and parents, and was chaired by Kumar Prasad Ghimire, Chairman of the School Management Committee.
